Call for Candidates!
Join our Team!
The AWLL Executive Committee is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated members to join us in the roles of TREASURER, SECRETARY, WEBSITE DIRECTOR and EVENTS CO-DIRECTOR (one position vacant).
ExComm members past and present are happy to speak with you about the roles. We would love to have your enthusiasm and skills as we move forward!
Our organization is run solely by volunteers and we encourage those with an interest in taking on a leadership role within our dynamic organization to contact us. We are run by a small team of friendly and dedicated volunteers who have busy legal careers but believe in the value of the organization.
Successful candidates for the Executive Committee will have strong administrative, organizational and IT skills and support AWLL’s goals and objectives. Regarding IT skills, it is extremely beneficial to have experience or a willingness/savviness to learn applications used regularly by the organisation such as WordPress, MailChimp, Google Docs, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, JotForm, PayPal, Word and Excel. It would be helpful, but not necessary, to have some previous experience within a club or organization. Your membership status and participation with AWLL will be considered. However, please note that the Executive Committee is built of both newcomers and veterans to AWLL. Most importantly we are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about taking on these roles.
Executive Committee roles are designed to be two-year commitments. Where the roles are vacant between the two-year election cycles, such as at present, they are filled by appointment of the Executive Committee. The Secretary and Treasurer roles will be up for election next in July 2019. The Events Co-Director and Website Director roles will be up for election next in July 2020. You are welcome to continue in the role beyond these dates as an incumbent candidate.
The Treasurer shall keep proper accounting records and present periodic reports to the Executive Committee. She shall prepare an annual budget, annual balance sheet and income and expenditure statement for approval by the Executive Committee and distribution to the members.
Events and Activities Co-Directors
Events and Activities Co-Directors are responsible for coordination of events and liaising with external hosts. They manage guest lists and keep records of attendance. The Events and Activities Co-Directors will look into whether Continuing Legal Education credits would be available at AWLL events. They would also be responsible for posting/distributing presenters' materials and recording our events to be available as audio or video.
The Secretary is responsible for scheduling, drafting agendas and taking minutes of the Executive Committee meetings; safekeeping of AWLL’s archives; sending notices for any general meetings; managing elections to the Executive Committee; receiving notices and responding to enquiries from members and forwarding to the relevant Executive Committee member as necessary; working with the Marketing Director to draft AWLL promotional materials (e.g. blog, newsletter, web content); and working with the Membership Director to update and maintain the membership database and membership directory.
The Website Director maintains the AWLL website and assists with other technical matters, such as email accounts. The Website Director will work with outside professional web developer as and when required.
